So you guys are gonna love this. I finally figured out what the heck has been wrong with my computer. One of my Christmas gifts to myself was a new memory chip (512) and a new video card for my computer. Now, being the intelligent and cautious person that I am, I logged onto the HP website to make sure and get the specs for my machine so that I wouldn't buy the wrong things. The website tells me that my computer needs PC2700 DDRAM. I copied, pasted, and printed the page, went to CompUSA with the page, said this is what I need. I get the things I'm supposed to, install them correctly into the computer, and BAM! All of a sudden I'm having major issues with my computer. Of course, I had been having problems before hand, but nothing as bad as the system refusing to enter into SAFE MODE!! After 2 weeks of futile attempts at solving the problem, and 2 weeks of ignoring the machine, hoping that refusing it my attention would cause it to miss me and start behaving-all of which were fruitless efforts of course, I finally decide that I can't live without it anymore, and I can't really afford to take it to a repair shop...especially if I can fix it myself. So I open her up, for what seems like the 100th time in a month, and for some reason beyond explanation, I decide to leave the new 512 PC2700 in the system and take out the 256 that was in their when I bought it. As I'm sitting on the floor in front of my desk, head propped on the keyboard tray, fingers crossed, waiting for the 8th system restore to finish up, I see it........ There on the sticker that labels the 256 stick of RAM, the tiny little sticker, on the RAM that was installed in a COMPAQ FACTORY!!!! it says PC3200!! Somewhere out there in a freekin' factory that produces my computer is an unkown person who one day either on accident or out of sheer stupidity decided to place a PC3200 256 DDRAM stick in a computer that is designed for PC2700 DDRAM. A whole friggin month of pulling my hair out, glaring viciously, and sometimes REALLY wanting to kick the damn thing, all because some freek didn't do their job right. WONDERFUL! Tomorrow I get to call the company and see how they plan to fix this problem. All I want is the correct 256 chip that is supposed to be in there. Especially since I lost a TON of VERY important documents. (they could be really nice and send me a 512 to put me at a gig!) :)
So there you have it! The reason no one has heard from me in forever!
Happy New Years everyone!
